About Us

Where It Started
The Black Betterment Quest (BBQ) was born out of a desire to be part of the “Black” cultural experience. The phrase “I want to be invited to the BBQ!!!” is more than just a wish to be part of a cherished tradition; it represents a heartfelt desire to contribute positively to the Black community.
Together, we can make a difference
OUR BACKGROUND
While pursuing degrees at an institution of higher learning, we as students identified a significant need for social and educational activism within the framework of the institution. In response to the pressing demand for Black social justice activism, The “Black Activism in Action Community Association (BAIACA),” was born becoming the first officially recognized organization in the institution’s history.
Our mission focused on holding students and faculty accountable for dismantling oppressive systems and promoting multicultural inclusivity for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and their allies, in higher learning environments while integrating activism and equity into educational spaces and future professional practices.
“The Black Betterment Quests (BBQ)” aim is to advance the mission of BAIACA’s social justice activism by fostering demonstrative allyship with non-Black and BIPOC communities. This initiative seeks to dismantle racial barriers, and to enhance the well-being of Black and marginalized communities, ultimately leading to meaningful and progressively activistic change.
